Stone Cross
A cross carved from stone in a graveyard located in the north of Co. Donegal. The church nearby was in ruins, but the graveyard is still in use. The map of the area indicated that there was some rock art (carvings) in the area though we were unable to find it. Rock is always difficult to find because you have to be right beside it before you can see it. Another problem is the ever present moss which tends to cover anything that is stationary.

Grave stones make for interesting photos and the cemeteries are quiet pleasant places to stroll. We often see cemeteries which have no more room while the church is still in service ... About 20 years ago when I moved my wife and kids from the sparsely populated mid west of the US to the east coast of the US. One of the big first impressions on us was how many cemeteries there are.
I think here in Switzerland there are also graveyards in use, although the churches are not, perhaps used only for funerals and such. But they're still well maintained, for the most part.
Thanks for coming by and commenting on my blog earlier. I meant to say hello then, but something weird happened with the comments. And then it just happened again, so I deleted that post. Sigh...
Very nice grave stone. We have some lovely old ones here in my city. Must take a wander next time I go to my husband's grave.
