Ulster-American Folk Park

We visited the Ulster American Folk Park, an outdoor museum that tells the story of emigration from northern Ireland to America in the 18th and 19th centuries. The park contains some reconstructed houses - such as the log cabin above.

I saw the girls below walking round the park and assumed that they were some of the 'living history' costumed staff, but it turned out that they were actually tourists from the USA. I'm not sure what religion they are - Mennonites perhaps? - I was too shy to ask! But they certainly fitted well into the surroundings.

I liked seeing this--I liked the story of the second photo..I, too, thought they must be costumed participants.

when I saw this photo I thought you had been there for the 4th of July celebrations when people dress in period costume. If you haven't been down for this Annual Appalachian & Bluegrass Music Festival you should maybe try to get down to see it. Various musicians are located round the park and it makes for a great day out. The last time I was down they had a great cajun band (all the way from Nottingham).

Quite interesting. I am descended from the Irish. I would guess that these girls might be Amish.

My guess would be Amish as well. Nice photos

yep, we noticed the flyers for the bluegrass festival when we were at the park (typical of our family organisation - we manage to miss the 4th of july celebrations and also be too early for the bluegrass..)

Nice photos. I visited the Ulster-American Folk Park in 1978 when I met up with some cousins from Trillick. Fond memories. I'm glad to see the park is still there.

I agree--they're probably Amish which is an interesting sect here in the US. I was surprised but delighted to see the log cabin. Nice shot!

I've seen Mennonites from time to time on the roads in my hometown and they always wear black. They ride in horse-drawn carriages.

Actually, I'm surprised that they would travel. From what I've been told, they shun all things modern. Maybe they took a clipper ship? LOL
