Fitzwilliam

Construction has started on the new Fitzwilliam Hotel, in the narrow strip between the Opera House extension and the bottom of the Grosvenor Road. Apparently this hotel will have 131 rooms - I can't imagine how they are going to be fitted into this strip. Perhaps they'll look like this. In any case, this view of the mountain will vanish.

Sad to say - all the views of the surrounding countryside are fast disappearing. Hang on to that pic - so you can remember what the mountains used to look like, they might just disappear too under a lot of new appartment blocks. Just see if they don't.

Didn't know you had an opera house. Cool. Looks modern.

Sorry for delay in replying - life getting a little frazzled at present - but yes, I agree Dr A, it will be apartment blocks everywhere. Some of my mum's neighbours have been getting letters from developers offering to buy parts of their (fairly small) back gardens, hoping to squeeze a few more matchbox apartments in...

Well, the developers seem to be winning out along Belmont Road - the number of houses with large gardens that have now been demolished and replaced with apartments over the last year or so is phenomonal.
